A new risk management course at the University of Tartu

In the fast-developing business world, entrepreneurs must navigate windy and rapidly changing waters. The globalizing market, technological development, sustainable business development are just some of the keywords forming today’s business. Entrepreneurs need the assurance that their commercial vessels are storm-proof and can withstand challenges. But where do these specialists come from who can give this assuarance?

For the first time, the University of Tartu in cooperation with leading auditing and advisory companies (BDO, Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton Baltic, KPMG, and PwC) have prepared a risk management course, where experienced professionals provide students with a systematic and practical overview of the areas of risk management.

The course covers the following topics: organization of the accounting system and disclosure of data, cyber risks, legal risks of cross-border operations, risks of the international talent war and the green revolution, social risk management and reporting, engagement of external advisors to mitigate risks. The focus is on the possibilities of identifying and mitigating risks.

In the initial phase, the project was supported by the Estonian Auditors' Association, whose goal is to ensure the succession of auditors in Estonia.

The lecture series was opened by Kai Paalberg, Head of Business Risk Services at Grant Thornton Baltic, who spoke about risk management and internal audit. In addition, Grant Thornton Baltic’s Audit Manager Meeli Tali-Aruväli will also participate in the lecture series, focusing on risk management in accounting.

We hope that the lecture series will receive a warm reception among students.
